It’s Our Future!

The Juniata Clean Water Partnership (JCWP) needs your help!  After eight successful years of watershed education, conservation, and improvement efforts, the JCWP’s long-term funding source has come to an end.  We would like to continue providing assistance to residents and organizations throughout the Juniata Watershed; however that can only happen if we get your support now!

What Have We Accomplished So Far?

In the fall of 2000, the JCWP completed the Juniata Watershed Management Plan.  The primary environmental concerns identified in the watershed plan are listed below:

Poor Land Use Planning

Stormwater Runoff and Flooding

Illegal Roadside Dumping

Malfunctioning Septic Systems

Streambank Erosion

The JCWP can deal with these concerns by:

·         Providing guidance for municipalities who want to develop comprehensive plans and/or land use ordinances, locating funding sources;

·         Providing guidance on stormwater and/or flood mitigation planning, locating funding sources;

·         Working with PA CleanWays and local municipalities to hold bulky waste collection events and dump cleanups;

·         Providing technical assistance and case studies of successful examples of managing local sewage treatment;

·         Providing trees for streamside buffer plantings, locating funding and technical assistance for stream restoration work and agricultural Best Management Practices.

The Juniata Journey Sojourn – A multi-day paddle down a selected stream in the Juniata Watershed  

Annual Dinner held in January.

JCWP Vision for the Future: Juniata Watershed Resource Center

The JCWP will establish the Juniata Watershed Resource Center, in cooperation with Juniata College.  The Center will focus on serving the region’s conservation needs through public outreach programs, educational materials, and direct assistance.  The Center will also serve as an access point to a network of public and private organizations involved in watershed protection and enhancement.

The assistance offered by the JCWP translates into value for you:

·         Immediate assistance with watershed-related projects;

·         Annual recognition in the JCWP newsletter;

·         Work with more partners to increase the value of your project;

·         The knowledge that your money is going to improve the health of the Juniata River and the quality of life in     the Juniata watershed.

Please consider supporting the JCWP today by becoming a member.  The first $2000 we receive will be matched by Western Pennsylvania Watershed Protection Program.
