Juniata River Watershed Information and Facts
Announcements: The Juniata Clean Water Partnership was recently awarded a DEP Growing Greener Grant for $100,000 for retrofitting the Tussey Mountain High School parking lot with a porous surface, leading to an interceptor water garden to protect an impaired stream. The Juniata Clean Water Partnership and Natural Biodiversity recently received a $49,000 grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, with matching funding grants from the Foundation for Pennsylvania Watersheds, PA DCNR, and Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI) to focus on noxious and invasive plant populations within the Juniata Watershed. The project team will partner with municipalities and local conservation groups to form a cooperative weed management area partnership to address invasive plant issues. The proposed project will focus on prevention, early detection and rapid response, and on impacts upon sensitive plant communities, wild trout, and agricultural environments within the Juniata Watershed. The Juniata Water Trail maps are complete. For other maps from the region check the Fish and Boat Commission site.
